While social media marketing is all the buzz these days, email marketing remains one of the most effective ways to promote your brand. Customers still use email to communicate and gather information as much, if not more, than ever. If you want your business to succeed, you’ll need to create an effective email marketing plan.
Safeguard consultants stay up-to-date on the latest email marketing strategies and we’re always available to help. Our creative solutions include strategies for what to do — and what not to do. Here are some of our biggest “no-nos” when it comes to email marketing mistakes.
1. DON’T send only promotional email.
Because your primary goal is to increase sales, it’s tempting to use email exclusively as a sales tool. Unfortunately, overwhelming customers with promotional content often appears distasteful. Instead of sending only promotional email, use email to engage your customers. Provide them with helpful information, either about the products you sell or about something related to your business. If they open your email and find something useful inside, they’ll be more likely to purchase your product or service when you do try to sell something.
2. DON’T fill up the page with text.
If a customer decides to open your email, you have only a few seconds to capture their attention. This means your email better be punchy and visually attractive. If your email is chock full of dense paragraphs that are hard to understand, your customer will quickly move on. Ensure your message is read by shortening your text, including images, and using bold letters to highlight key points (like this one!).
3. DON’T forget to include a call to action.
You’re sending a marketing email, which means you’re trying to direct the recipient to more information about your product and, possibly, the purchase of said product. Even if your email is jam-packed with useful information that’s delivered in a punchy, visually attractive form, without a call to action your customer won’t know what to do next. Include an easy to distinguish call to action at the bottom of your email to ensure the highest amount of customer engagement!
